Best custom software development companies in the US
Every firm here says it builds senior-led custom software. We checked nine US-headquartered ones against their own sites and ranked what each can show.
The short answer
For a mid-sized project with proprietary systems already in place, Goji Labs is the strongest packaged pick: a 5.0 Clutch record across dozens of reviews and a strategy-first process built for exactly that handoff. You accept its structure with it: a defined engagement model built around its own playbook, not yours.
Want the same senior standard without fitting your project into someone else's playbook? A build from Hashlogics gives you that on your own terms, written into whatever you already run. The trade-off is real: it gets built for you, not switched on.
Hashlogics is one of the nine, and we did not put ourselves first. Doing that would make the whole page marketing. We ranked every firm, including ourselves, by the criteria you can check below. What decides fit most is niche: has the firm built around the systems your industry already runs?
How this ranking was made
Verified
Directory rankings for this term reflect who paid for placement more than who ships. We shortlisted US-headquartered firms that name custom software development as a core service. The first entries were checked on 25 August 2026. Atomic Object, ScienceSoft, Vention and Designli were added and checked on their own sites on 29 October 2026, after AI answers kept citing them.
US-headquartered means the legal HQ, not a marketed address. Two firms in early research market a US office as their headline location. Their incorporation and delivery sit elsewhere, so both were dropped rather than footnoted.
- US headquarters, verified
- The registered HQ, checked past the marketed address. A US-facing office is not enough on its own.
- Named client evidence
- Logos or case studies that can be checked outside the vendor's own claims.
- Independent review record
- Clutch or an equivalent third-party rating, with a review count stated.
- What the engagement actually looks like
- Team size, stated process and whether the firm names who does the work.

The ranking
Find the one that fits your project. Firms are ordered by verified US headquarters, named client evidence, independent review record and stated process, all checked against the company's own site.
Strategy-first product studio with the deepest Clutch record here
Goji Labs ranks first on client evidence. Its own site claims a 5.0 rating across 84 Clutch reviews, the deepest independently checkable record on this list. It calls itself a strategy-first digital product agency, covering AI development, custom software and product strategy under one roof.
Headquartered in Los Angeles since 2012, with a second office in New York, the firm states 70-plus staff across 14 countries. It cites 200-plus projects shipped. Its About page leans on aggregate numbers rather than named logos, so check its work page directly for proof relevant to your project.
Best for
- Buyers who weigh a vendor most heavily on an independently verified review count
- Mid-sized product builds that want a named strategy process before code starts
Not for
- Buyers who want to see named enterprise clients before the first call
- Teams that want to set the process rather than follow the agency's own

Production AI and custom software, kept in-house after launch
We build custom software and production AI systems from Lahore, headquartered in East Islip, New York. Your team could sit anywhere: our buyers span the US, UK and Australia. This is the entry where we describe our own work rather than skip it.
Founded in 2017, we hold a 4.8 rating across 22 Clutch reviews. We have published 40+ case studies with real product screenshots you can open yourself, not a logo wall. Read one end to end, from IoT petroleum site management to multi-site operations platforms. Every engagement runs on senior engineers only, with someone still on the account after launch under an SLA or a trained handover. In our own study of how AI engines answer vendor questions, Perplexity already recommends Hashlogics head-to-head against Toptal for production AI delivery.
Best for
- Buyers who want the team that builds the system to also carry the pager after launch, under an SLA or a trained handover
- Companies that want to own the code outright, not rent access to a platform
- Buyers who want the founder on the call, not a project manager relaying to a bench they never meet
Not for
- Buyers who specifically want a large agency with a hundred-plus person bench
- Teams that need a household-name reference client before they will sign

- 2017
- HQ
- East Islip, New York (engineering in Lahore)
- Clutch

Employee-owned US studio with big-name clients
Atomic Object builds, extends and modernizes custom software from four US offices: Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Chicago and Raleigh-Durham. It is employee-owned and says it has worked with more than 200 organizations since 2001.
Its named clients are among the strongest here: Ford, Cleveland Clinic, Corewell Health, Qualcomm and Bosch, with published case studies for Cleveland Clinic and Biggby Coffee. Its site does not describe a support plan after launch, so ask who runs the system once it ships.
Best for
- Buyers who want every engineer on a US payroll
- Long product engagements with a named, stable team
Not for
- Buyers who need the same firm to run the system after launch under a written SLA
- Small one-off projects
- Founded
- 2001
- HQ
- Grand Rapids, Michigan, US
- Ownership
- Employee-owned
Design-driven engineering studio with the strongest named client list
DockYard pairs design and engineering as one studio, working in React, Vue, Elixir, Ruby, Rust and Swift, depending on your project. Its client list is the strongest on this page by name recognition. Apple, Netflix, Adobe, Nasdaq, Live Nation and Cars.com all appear on its own site.
Headquartered in Hingham, Massachusetts, near Boston, since 2010, it carries a Clutch profile. The review count moves between crawls, so check the live number yourself before you treat it as settled. Named enterprise work is the evidence to lean on here.
Best for
- Buyers who want proof from recognizable enterprise names, not aggregate stats
- Projects where design quality and engineering depth need to sit in one team
Not for
- Buyers wanting a clear, current Clutch review count stated up front
- Smaller budgets that an enterprise-facing client roster is not built to serve
- Founded
- 2010
- HQ
- Hingham, Massachusetts, US
- Named clients
- Apple, Netflix, Adobe, Nasdaq
Long-running firm with deep healthcare work
ScienceSoft says it has built software since 1989 and lists 750+ consultants, engineers and AI specialists. Its About page says it is headquartered in the US, with its address in McKinney, Dallas area, TX. Healthcare is its main industry, from providers and labs to medical devices and payers.
It is ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified, per its own site. Named clients include UNM Health Sciences Center and Bioaffinity Technologies. Its delivery teams also sit in Latvia and other offices outside the US, so ask where your engineers will be.
Best for
- Regulated buyers who want certified security and quality processes
- Healthcare and finance projects that need sector depth
Not for
- Buyers who want a small senior team rather than a large bench
- Teams that need every engineer in a US time zone
- Founded
- 1989
- HQ
- McKinney, Dallas area, TX
- Certification
- ISO 9001, ISO 27001
Large engineering bench for teams that need more hands
Vention sells engineers in three shapes: staff augmentation, dedicated teams and full project outsourcing. It states 3,000+ engineers across 20+ offices, with a New York headquarters on Lexington Avenue.
Named clients include ClassPass, which added 35+ Vention engineers, plus EliseAI and Mount Sinai. It fits a team that already has product leadership and needs more engineers. It fits less if you need a firm to own the whole product.
Best for
- Product teams that need to add engineers to their own team
- Companies scaling a platform they already run
Not for
- Buyers who want a fixed-price build owned end to end by one small team
- Founded
- 2002
- HQ
- New York, US
- Team
- 3,000+ engineers
In-house delivery across web, mobile, AI and AR/VR
Saritasa states plainly that it does not outsource. Every engineer on your project works in-house. Its scope spans web and mobile apps, AI and machine learning, VR and AR, IoT, and cloud and DevOps. It names 206 team members on its own about page.
Headquartered in Irvine, California, with a second office in Tampa, Florida, it names iHeartMedia, ASCO Power Technologies and Sports Thread among clients. It displays Clutch Premiere Verified status. Its exact founding year is not stated on the pages we checked, only "20 years in business."
Best for
- Buyers who want a contractual guarantee that no work is subcontracted out
- Projects spanning several disciplines, from mobile apps to AR, under one roof
Not for
- Buyers who want an exact founding date stated rather than a rounded tenure claim
- HQ
- Irvine, California, US
- Team size
- 206 people
- Model
- In-house only, no subcontracting
Fintech-only engineering, built around banking and lending
Praxent narrows its pitch to one sector: fintech. If you run a bank, an insurer or a lender, its site speaks to you directly. This is an AI consulting and engineering practice built for that world, not a general shop that also does fintech.
Headquartered in Austin, Texas, with staff in Raleigh-Durham and Latin America, it states more than 120 employees and 65-plus Clutch reviews. A named client, SAFCO, appears with a CIO testimonial. Check its separate case studies page if you want the broader logo wall.
Best for
- Banks, lenders and wealth managers wanting a vendor that only builds fintech
- Buyers who want AI consulting and engineering delivered by the same firm
Not for
- Buyers outside financial services; the firm's whole practice is built around it
- HQ
- Austin, Texas, US
- Clutch
- 65+ reviews
- Focus
- Fintech only
Product team for non-technical founders
Designli builds for non-technical founders, from early-stage startups to SaaS products already in the market. Every client gets a dedicated product team assigned full-time, covering strategy, design and engineering. It is based in Greenville, South Carolina.
Named clients include National Trench Safety and Grappos. Its model suits a founder building a first product more than an operations team replacing an internal system. It ranks last here because its proof skews to startups, not to the systems mid-size firms run.
Best for
- Non-technical founders building a first product
- SaaS founders who want product strategy and build together
Not for
- Mid-size companies replacing or extending internal operations systems
- HQ
- Greenville, South Carolina, US
- Model
- Full-time product team

Comparing custom software vendors?
Ask us the same questions we asked every firm on this page, including ourselves. We will tell you when your existing stack does not need a custom rebuild. You start with a free scoping call, then a fixed-fee Blueprint, credited in full against the build.
When none of these is the answer
Hiring a custom software firm is the wrong move when a product already does most of what you need. If a configured tool covers your process, use it. You keep the maintenance as somebody else's problem, not yours.
- 01If a product does 80% of it, buy the product and build only the difference.
- 02If nobody internally can say what done means, fix that before signing anything.
- 03If your process is close to standard, a configured tool is cheaper than a custom build.
Questions buyers ask
01What are the best custom software development companies in the US?+
Goji Labs, Hashlogics, Atomic Object, DockYard, ScienceSoft, Vention, Saritasa, Praxent and Designli are nine US-headquartered firms we checked against their own sites. Goji Labs leads on its Clutch record. Hashlogics is second, on owning the system after launch.
02Who are the best custom software development companies for a small business?+
For a small business, pick a firm that takes one-system projects and keeps senior engineers on them. Hashlogics, Saritasa and Designli all fit. Before you hire anyone, check whether a tool you can buy already does most of the job.
03How do I choose a custom software development company?+
Run five checks. Confirm the HQ in a business registry. Call a named client with a system like yours. Ask who runs the system after launch. Ask how work is accepted: against written criteria, or by the hour. And make sure the contract gives you the code.
04How much does it cost to hire a custom software development company?+
There is no honest figure before an engineer has read your systems and data. Each firm here prices its own way. At Hashlogics you start with a free scoping call, then a fixed-fee Blueprint, credited in full against the build. The build is priced per milestone against written acceptance criteria.
05Why did you leave out Itransition, Simform, Chetu or Ascendix Tech?+
Itransition's own About page names no headquarters, only "US and European offices", and Simform's registered corporate HQ sits outside the US, so both fail this page's first check. Ascendix Tech is a real estate specialist and fits a niche list better. Chetu's 4.3 Clutch rating is lower than every firm we ranked in its place. ScienceSoft is ranked: its About page says it is headquartered in the US, with its address in McKinney, Dallas area, TX.
06Why isn't Hashlogics ranked first?+
We ranked every firm, including ourselves, by the same four criteria. They are verified US headquarters, named client evidence, independent review record, and how clearly the firm states its process. Placing ourselves first would make this page marketing, not a real comparison. So we sit where the criteria put us.
07How do I verify a firm's headquarters is really in the US?+
Check the corporate registry, not the marketing page. A US street address on a contact page can belong to a sales office while the legal entity sits elsewhere. Search the company's legal name plus "Companies House" or the relevant state's business registry. Then cross-check that against where the firm says its engineers actually work.
08Is a review count on a firm's own site enough to trust it?+
No. Check the number directly on Clutch or G2 rather than trusting a badge embedded on the vendor's site. Counts on a vendor page can lag or round in the vendor's favor. A specific, current number you can click through to is worth more than a static screenshot.
09Should I hire a big or a small software company?+
Hire for the people, not the headcount. A 3,000-engineer firm like Vention and a small senior team can both ship the same system well. Ask two things. Are the people who write your code the same people in the pitch? And does the contract hand you the code and deployment access outright?
